As you’ve probably already heard,
Ubuntu 7.10 is the only operating system that has survived unscathed from a hacking competition hosted by
CanSecWest Vancouver 2008 and sponsored by TippingPoint's Zero Day Initiative. Excluding Ubuntu Linux, Apple's Mac OS X Leopard was the first to be owned in day 2 of CanSecWest and Windows Vista Ultimate Service Pack 1 was hacked on the last day.
For those of you who use Kubuntu 7.10 or Ubuntu KDE,
the team released
packages for KDE 4.0.3 on Tuesday. This new maintenance release introduces the Extragear package, which contains a handful of mature applications and a lot of improvements for applications such as Konqueror.
As promised, at the end of the week we've released a new tutorial about
How to install Avant Window Navigator on Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron). The tutorial will offer two installation methods with step-by-step instructions.
In other news, starting with April 10th, Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron will be in final freeze. Therefore, all the developers are urged to prepare any uploads, avoiding all unnecessary changes. Among these are:
• General package cleanups, like bumping standards-version;
• Adding a patch system for packages, which don't have one already;
• Changing text files (in regards to translations), including fixing minor typographical errors;
• Switching build systems.
