Not much happened this week, the Ubuntu 8.04 LTS (Hardy Heron) roadmap was announced, UDS (Ubuntu Developer Summit) had a satisfying outcome, Mythbuntu 7.10 and the first beta of Linux Mint 4.0 (Daryna) were made available this week. Let's take a closer look at each, shall we?

Ubuntu Developer Summit (UDS) took place, as expected, in Cambridge, Massachusetts and the sessions were organized in categories like Community, Kernel, Platform, Server, Mobile, QA and Desktop. For daily detailed information about this year's UDS, please visit this site.

The roadmap for Hardy Heron a.k.a. Ubuntu 8.04, was made public Wednesday and it will have some nice elements which will make many Ubuntu users happy, such as:

■ A redesigned restricted-manager code ■ Labeling and formatting of partitions ■ Dial-up Support ■ The Add/Remove Software application could be changed ■ Improved Ubuntu Server documentation ■ The number of duplicate applications and libraries will be reduced ■ Kubuntu Hardy Catchup ■ The CD boot loader for Hardy reviewed ■ Bug Statistics

Mythbuntu reached version 7.10 and includes the following highlights:

■ The front-end can be run from the live CD. ■ Complete installations were included (back-end, front-end, back-end/front-end, etc). ■ Xfce4 Desktop Environment is now included. ■ You can now easily upgrade from Ubuntu Gutsy to Mythbuntu (see homepage for instructions). ■ A custom Mythbuntu MythTV theme is now included. ■ GUI setup of LIRC was added. ■ You can now setup MythTV optimizations through MCC.

Moreover, the first beta of Linux Mint 4.0 (codename Daryna) was released at the beginning of this week, based on Linux Mint 3.1 (Celena) and compatible with the Ubuntu 7.04 Gutsy Gibbon repositories.

Let's move on to the updates and fixes for 6.06 LTS and 7.10 Ubuntu releases only, because there were no updates for 6.10 and 7.04 versions this week. As usual, here's some important common security update:

■ [USN-537-2] Compiz vulnerability

Now, let's take a look at updates for Ubuntu 6.06 LTS:

■ base-installer 1.42ubuntu13 ■ base-files 3.1.9ubuntu7.2 ■ linux-backports-modules-2.6.15 2.6.15-51.4

And finaly, here are the updates for Ubuntu 7.10:

■ kdesudo 1.1-0ubuntu2.2 ■ kdevelop 4:3.5.0-0ubuntu2.1 ■ linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22 2.6.22.4-14.10 ■ libcompress-zlib-perl 2.005-1ubuntu0.1 ■ basket 1.0.2-2build2.1

As you can see, there are many security updates this week (even for Ubuntu 7.10), so you'd better prepare for an update session!
