- Ubuntu 8.04 Beta, Launchpad news and more

The beta versions of Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and Kubuntu 8.04 were released, as expected, on Thursday. Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Beta brings many new interesting things, such as a brand-new and fresh theme, a revamped installer and a lot of updated applications. Would you

On the other hand, Kubuntu 8.04 comes with the following features and improvements:

• Easier scheduling in KOrganizer
• KGeography and Kig fixes in the KDE Edu module
• KPDF fixes
• Improved support for the iPhone and iPod Touch
• Fixes to the PostgreSQL backend
• Automatic Codecs installation when opening a Kaffeine file
• Wubi installer for Windows users
• File system encryption
• Read and write to NTFS partions using Dolphin
• Bulletproof X
• And much, much more

Launchpad new logo competition will be closed on March 31st, so if you are a great graphic artist and you want to design a logo for Canonical's Launchpad, submit your ideas until the previously mentioned date. You'll receive an Ubuntu Messenger Bag, and bragging rights to the whole Ubuntu community. But don't forget to read the rules before submitting any content!

Now, let's move on to the security updates and fixes for all the Ubuntu releases. First, the common security updates:

• [USN-587-1] Kerberos vulnerabilities
• [USN-588-1] MySQL vulnerabilities
• [USN-589-1] unzip vulnerability

The updates for Ubuntu 6.06 LTS are:

• krb5_1.4.3-5ubuntu0.7
• mysql-dfsg-5.0_5.0.22-0ubuntu6.06.8
• unzip 5.52-6ubuntu4.1

Next, the updates for Ubuntu 6.10:

• phpmyadmin_2.8.2-0.2ubuntu0.1
• wml 2.0.8-11ubuntu0.6.10
• python-cherrypy 2.2.1-3ubuntu0.1
• krb5_1.4.3-9ubuntu1.6
• mysql-dfsg-5.0_5.0.24a-9ubuntu2.4
• unzip 5.52-8ubuntu1.1

Here are the updates for Ubuntu 7.04:

• postgresql-8.2 8.2.7-0ubuntu0.7.04
• krb5_1.4.4-5ubuntu3.4
• mysql-dfsg-5.0_5.0.38-0ubuntu1.4
• unzip 5.52-9ubuntu3.1

And finally, the updates for Ubuntu 7.10 are:

• postgresql-8.2 8.2.7-0ubuntu0.7.10
• krb5_1.6.dfsg.1-7ubuntu0.1
• mysql-dfsg-5.0_5.0.45-1ubuntu3.3
• unzip 5.52-10ubuntu1.1
