It's here, it's hot, it's the greatest release ever... it's
Ubuntu 7.10 a.k.a. Gutsy Gibbon, which was released, as promised, on Thursday afternoon. Here's some new stuff included in this release:
GNOME 2.20.
Compiz enabled by default.
Better desktop search with Tracker.
Ubuntu restricted extras replaces the need for Automatix.
Adobe Flash Player 9 can be installed on both i386 and amd64 architectures with the help of Ubufox - a smart Firefox extension. Don't worry, once installed, Firefox will be available on other browsers, such as Konqueror, too.
New default wallpaper.
Kubuntu as a redesigned log-in screen and also a new wallpaper.
Fast user switching.
Graphical configuration tool for X.
Setting up a printer is easier than making a sandwich!
Universe and Multiverse repositories are enabled by default.
New folders in your Home directory: Documents, Music, Pictures, Public, Templates, Videos!
Restricted drivers manager is also available in Kubuntu, as a KControl module!
NTFS writing is enabled by default.
Encrypted hard disks are supported from the installation, with the help of the Alternate CD!
AppArmor security framework

Ubuntu Developer Summit for Version 8.04 will start from Monday 29th October to Friday 2nd November 2007, in Boston. This summit has the goal of shaping the next release of Ubuntu. It's also opened to the public, but it is not a conference, exhibition or other audience-oriented event.
