A fresh OTA update is being prepared for Ubuntu Touch, and it should land soon. Developers have released some of the most important improvements that will be implemented in the upcoming release.

Ubuntu devs have their plate full at this moment. They are working to move the Ubuntu Touch OS from one base to another, more precisely from Ubuntu 14.10 to Ubuntu 15.04. As you can imagine, this is not something easy to do. Besides the breakage caused by this transition, they also have to fix problems that are already present and to add some new features.

Their efforts to push a new update out the door as soon as possible have been delayed by some infrastructure problems that have affected both their work and Launchpad in general. The issues are being sorted out, but users have already reported problems with the Ubuntu Store. In any case, once this issues will be solved, Canonical will be able to go back to their release schedule

OTA-4 is an important update

The new update from Canonical for Ubuntu Touch brings a couple of new interesting new features that have been requested by the community, including the ability to import contacts from a SIM card.

According to a changelog posted on Carla Sella's blog, an Ubuntu insider, a bottom edge gesture has been added to the browser to bring up the tabs; new privacy settings have been added to the web browser; automatic aggregation of new sources has been implemented; the News scope has a new layout; Today, Nearby and News scopes now have support for keywords; a new settings panel for the Address Book is available; the first-time user experience for contact sync/import has been refined; and QT has been upgraded to version 5.4.
