Ubuntu Touch OTA-4.5 might be released soon

It would appear that many users reported issues after having upgraded their Ubuntu phones to the massive OTA-4 software update released by Canonical for their Ubuntu Touch mobile operating system, which is used in devices like BQ Aquaris E4.5.

On June 16, Canonical, through Łukasz Zemczak, confirmed that the issues could not be avoided because of the switch from Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) to Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) as the base of Ubuntu Touch.

At the moment, Canonical investigates all the critical problems and promises to release patches for all the issues reported by users in the last 24 hours or so. Also, they are considering releasing an OTA-4.5 hotfix before the next major update for the Ubuntu Touch operating system, OTA-5.

"We tried to make as many tests as possible, but with such a big switch from 14.09 to vivid, there's simply no way to avoid all possible problems. We apologize for any inconveniences," says Łukasz Zemczak. "That being said, we are considering making a hotfix release (OTA-4.5) before OTA-5, similar to what we did last time."

Users are urged to report any bugs they encounter with OTA-4

In the same announcement, Canonical urges all users who managed to install the OTA-4 software update for Ubuntu Touch on their smartphones, whether it was BQ Aquaris E4.5 or Nexus 4, to report any bugs they might encounter so that the Ubuntu Touch team can fix all remaining issues as soon as possible.

Also, Łukasz Zemczak informs us that they did not have the time to promote the community channels, nor the ubuntu-developer ones, but they are hard at work these days and will do that in the coming days.

We've installed the OTA-4 update on our BQ Aquaris E4.5 device and we’ve encountered no issues until now. We will keep you posted once we have more information on the OTA-4.5 hotfix release for Ubuntu Touch.
