The terminal is still under development, for now

Developers have reinvented the terminal numerous times and there are a ton of various apps out there that do the same thing. Now, an "Ubuntu terminal reboot" has surfaced and it's glorious.

Ubuntu users might know that the terminal integrated by default is the one from the GNOME project, but that is about to change. The Unity 8 desktop environment that is now powering the Ubuntu phone will eventually make it to the desktop and it comes with its own terminal app. Devs took that terminal app that was made for touch devices and redesigned it for the desktop. The result is extraordinary.

It's easy to think that you can't improve upon the terminal in any meaningful ways. After being present for decades on the PC, what more can you bring to the table? Well, it looks like you can add tab previews to it. How such a simple and obvious feature has been ignored until now is a mystery. A user on Google+, Popescu Sorin, posted a cool video showing the capabilities of the new terminal and it's really something to be admired.

For now, only the source package for the Ubuntu terminal reboot has been posted, but you can easily compile it in order to test it. As it stands right now, it's hard to imagine that the Ubuntu that will ship with Unity 8 won't have this kind of functionality.
