Ubuntu Studio, a multimedia editing/creation flavor of Ubuntu, has had a troubled development cycle, but it still reached version 11.10, along with Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, Edubuntu, and Mythbuntu.

Ubuntu Studio 11.10 is the tenth release, but to get here it had some development problems as it suffered an almost complete team fail during this cycle, mostly because of  unforeseen circumstances.

Currently, Ubuntu Studio 11.10 is shipping the -generic kernel,  allowing users to set IRQ priorities, which means a real time kernel is no longer required for this task.

The developers are also working with  Ubuntu Kernel Team in order to get -lowlatency kernel into the archives in Ubuntu Studio.

The team also said that the Xfce transition is incomplete and not fully tested an that Ubuntu Studio does not currently use Unity as it is transitioning to Xfce.
