Zabbix agent now available for all IoT devices

Sergey Sorokin, Director of Business Development at Zabbix, wrote an interesting article on Canonical's Ubuntu Insights website about the collaboration of Zabbix with the Snappy Ubuntu Core operating system for IoT (Internet of Things).

He believes that all the devices around us are becoming smarter and smarter with each and every day that passes by, and that we tend to perform less and less manual tasks, relying on automation.

Some of these smart devices, which are part of the Internet of Things movement, are powered by Canonical's IoT operating system, called Snappy Ubuntu Core, and they must be reliable and secure at all times.

Therefore, Sergey Sorokin thinks that there's need for a secure platform that provides communication between the IoT operating system and the end-user, as all of our important data might be at risk.

"Implementation of such control requires a secure platform for communication as IoT accesses much of our personal data, as well as efficient technology because IoT resources are very scarce. This is where Zabbix and Canonical come into play," says Sergey Sorokin.

Zabbix and Canonical collaborate for a better Internet of Things

So this is how Canonical started a fruitful collaboration with Zabbix, an open-source, mature, platform-independent and enterprise-class monitoring solution, who developed a resource-efficient agent that lives on top of any IoT device powered by Snappy Ubuntu Core.

Zabbix's agent has been designed from the ground up to be capable of collecting information about the IoT device's performance, status, availability, as well as various other handy application metrics. Additionally, the agent can transmit collected data to other IoT devices.

Snappy Ubuntu Core's Zabbix agent is available today for all IoT device vendors who want to customize it to their liking and implement it in their devices in order to achieve real interoperability, thus making our lives easier, richer, and safer.
