Ubuntu fans have been waiting for the release of an Ubuntu-powered phone from a major hardware manufactures or carrier in 2014, but it seems that they will have to wait for another year.

Mark Shuttleworth said a while ago that in 2014 at least one major carrier or hardware maker would be releasing an Ubuntu-powered phone, and that Canonical is in talks with a few other interested parties.

The Ubuntu Community Manager seems to have popped Mark's enthusiastic bubble and he says that we might not get anything until 2015.

“Longer-term we would love to see the major OEM/Carriers shipping Ubuntu handsets. This is a long road though with many components, and I would be surprised if we see anything like this before 2015. When the major OEMs/Carriers ship, this is when many of the ISVs will be on-board too,” said Jono Bacon, Ubuntu community manager.

Even if this is an official statement, it doesn't mean that it will happen. Mark Shuttleworth was pretty adamant about a 2014 release, so you we can still hope. In the meantime, Galaxy Nexus 4 is an awesome phone and runs Ubuntu Touch perfectly.
