The developers have upgraded the proper libraries

Ubuntu developers have updated the NSS library that is required to have native Netflix support in Linux, through Google Chrome.

The Netflix people got in touch with the Ubuntu team and asked them to upgrade the NSS library in their repository. This would enable Netflix to consider lifting the user agent check that is now performed. This means that Netflix will work natively, in Google Chorme through HTML5, as soon as Netflix makes it happen.

Ubuntu developer Marc Deslauriers made the update just a couple of hours ago. "NSS was updated to refresh the CA certificates bundle.  The NSS package contained outdated CA certificates. This update refreshes the NSS package to version 3.17 which includes the latest CA certificate bundle," reads the security notification from Canonical.

The NSS package has been updated in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, and Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, although it's unclear whether Netflix playback will work on all of them. As usual, all you have to do is upgrade the operating system and you will get the new library version.

Also, any applications that use NSS, such as Evolution and Chromium, will have to be restarted. Please keep in mind that Netflix still has to enable the playback from their side.
