Canonical has just revealed several other features of the Ubuntu Linux for mobile phones edition. A release date has been set for this software in Octomber, which makes the waiting somewhat easier for those that eagerly want it on their mobile phones too.

The new Ubuntu Linux will make it a great deal easier for mobile phone users to handle a larger amount of information at the same time on their handsets. Video, sound and full-featured Internet browsing will all come in an easier-to-use format when compared to previous editions.

"Ubuntu Mobile and Embedded edition is expected to deliver fast boot and resume times, and reside in a small memory and disk footprint", said Canonical. The development of this software is the result of several efforts made by this company in order to bring mobile phone users a world-class, free and open source operating systems.

"It is clear that new types of devices--small, handheld, graphical tablets which are Internet-enabled--are going to change the way we communicate and collaborate. These devices place new demands on open-source software and require innovative graphical interfaces, improved power management and better responsiveness", said Ubuntu Chief Technology Officer Matt Zimmerman.

Mobile phones come as an excellent environment for developing better, more reliable working platforms. Linux has registered a considerable growth over the last few years and is currently threatening to surpass Windows Mobile. Actually, previsions on the future of Microsoft's part in the mobile phone environment show the fact that this company will lose most of its market share over the next few years. That, of course, if they are not preparing any surprises for us right now.

Ubuntu is just one of the several other Linux versions, which also include Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Novell's Suse Linux Enterprise Server. When compared to these others, Ubuntu has gained a growing popularity over the last few years.
