This is the first deal for the Ubuntu MATE team

Entroware has become the first hardware partner for Ubuntu MATE, meaning that users can now purchase a laptop powered by this operating system.

When a company chooses an operating system to ship with their hardware, it means that it's worthy enough for that task. It usually undergoes rigorous testing before getting this important opportunity. There are hundreds of Linux distributions right now available for download, but only a handful of them are actually shipped with hardware, so it's not a trivial thing.

Entroware is not exactly a beginner, and the company is already providing Ubuntu 14.04 and Ubuntu 14.10 with some of their laptops, but it looks like Ubuntu MATE 15.04 will also be one of the operating systems provided to the users.

Ubuntu and Ubuntu MATE are the only ones to share this honor

There are many flavors in the Ubuntu family, but not all of them can be found in hardware. Ubuntu MATE has managed this feat shortly after its launch, so it's a testament to its quality.

"Ubuntu MATE forges an exciting partnership with Linux hardware startup Entroware. Inspired by the traditional GNOME 2 interface of classic Ubuntu releases, Ubuntu MATE is the perfect distribution for easing the transition between Microsoft Windows or Mac OS and Linux. While Entroware currently ships with Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10, as of the Ubuntu MATE 15.04 release, Entroware will be offering the option to purchase machines with Ubuntu MATE pre-installed along with full support," reads the official entry on the Ubuntu MATE blog.

As it stands right now, Ubuntu MATE 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) is scheduled for launch on April 23, which is just a few weeks away. If you check Entroware's website, you will notice that Ubuntu MATE is not yet available as an option, but that will change very soon, in just a few weeks.
