During a very informative session at UOS (Ubuntu Online Summit) for Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) that took place today, May 7, Martin Wimpress had the great pleasure of informing us about the upcoming features of the Ubuntu MATE 15.10 operating system.

Among some of the prominent features that will be implemented in Ubuntu MATE 15.10 (Wily Werewolf), we can mention the highly anticipated MATE 1.10 desktop environment, and a new Welcome screen in the style of Korora and Manjaro distributions.

Additionally, Ubuntu MATE 15.10 will include ePub support in the Atril document viewer, runtime plugin management to the Caja file manager, an all-new audio layer, X2Go integration, new packages, and an integrated launcher.

Furthermore, the MATE Tweak tool will allow users to save panel layouts, and will offer more robust panel switching. The Ubuntu MATE 15.10 should also include a netbook-friendly panel layout, Maximus integration, and support for restoring Compiz settings.

MATE 1.10 will not be available for Ubuntu MATE 15.04

We've asked Martin Wimpress more details about the availability of MATE 1.10 in Ubuntu MATE 15.04, and he has confirmed that it won't be available in the near future. The Vivid Vervet release of Ubuntu MATE will stay on MATE 1.8 for now.

The 1.10.0 release of the MATE desktop environment includes a number of RandR fixes, implements two new classes, one that allows for traditional color selection dialog with GTK3 and another one that allows for a traditional about dialog with the GTK3 toolkit, and support for GObject Introspection.

Additionally, MATE 1.10 adds the org.mate.debug GSettings schema, removes some components such as the user guide, the desktop-docs package, and the libunique library as an optional dependency, adds automatic-mnemonics key support for GTK xsetting in the interface, and it uses a new function for inter-GTK compatibility.

Among other interesting changes in MATE 1.10, we can mention that the GnomeRRConfig, MateRRScreen, and GnomeOutputInfo classes have been transformed into a single GObject, and the mpaste component has been updated for website changes.
