14 DAY TRIAL // Martin Wimpress had the pleasure of announcing today, March 26, the immediate availability for download and testing of the Ubuntu MATE 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) Beta 2 operating system, a development release that includes assorted new features and bugfixes.
Powered by Linux 3.19 kernel from the upstream Ubuntu 15.04 operating system, Ubuntu MATE 15.04 Beta 2 now switches to systemd by default. It adds the MATE Tweak and MATE Menu tools, fixes a crash with the notification area, and addressed several GLib compatibility issues.
Folder Color, a tool that allows users to change the color of a folder with just a click of a mouse button, has been updated to version 0.0.60, and Folder Color Caja to version 0.0.62, with the ability to set folder colors globally. Several wallpapers contributed by the community have also been added in Ubuntu MATE 15.04 Beta 2.
This release includes bugfixes from both Debian and Ubuntu distros
In addition to the above, the Cheese application has been replaced with guvcview as the default webcam viewer, the MATE profile for Compiz has been updated to improve the desktop effects, and the Qt accessibility modules are now enabled automatically when a MATE session is detected.
Last but not least, the Ambiant-MATE, Radiant-MATE, and Yuyo themes have been updated, the mate-themes package received support for GTK3 Client Side Decorations and popovers, Compiz is now optional for PCs where the graphics card is capable of supporting 3D effects, and the MATE configuration and autostart files have been updated.
The second and last Beta version of the forthcoming Ubuntu MATE 15.04 Beta 2 operating system also includes bugfixes from the upstream Ubuntu and Debian GNU/Linux distros.
