14 DAY TRIAL // Ubuntu Kylin 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn), a Chinese Linux distribution based on Ubuntu and developed in collaboration with Canonical, is looking to expand its user-base in China with this new release.
Canonical has a great opportunity in China with the Ubuntu OS because this is one of the countries that relied most on Windows XP. Understandably, after the support for Windows XP was stopped, 70% of the computers in this country have become even more vulnerable. There are no reliable free operating systems that could take its place, so the new Ubuntu Kylin has a really good chance to make a dent in OS market.
The government in China has been trying for ages to get a Linux distribution up and running, which would eventually replace Windows XP and proprietary software, but it had little success. An Ubuntu system developed specifically to cater to the needs of the Chinese user is just what is needed.
Quite a few Linux distros have been built in China over the years, even with support from the government, but they all have failed to meet the public and the authorities’ expectations.
Ubuntu Kylin is made specifically for the Chinese market
Ubuntu Kylin is built by China Software and Integrated Chip Promotions Centre (CSIP), the National University of Defense Technology (NUDT), and Canonical. It comes with very specific features and it's very different from its western counterparts.

The developers have worked very hard to improve upon the previous Kylin edition and it shows. Besides the components that have been brought from Ubuntu upstream, like the Linux kernel, the Chinese developers have also integrated a large number of apps that are designed only for this distro.
