The first Alpha version of the new Ubuntu 14.04 LTS will be released tomorrow, but only for a limited number of flavors.

Canonical is no longer releasing Alpha versions of the operating systems, and they are only limited to a Beta version. Other flavors are still respecting the old schedule and are providing intermediate builds.

Xubuntu, Edubuntu, Lubuntu, Ubuntu GNOME, and UbuntuKylin are participating in the Alpha 1 launch and are now in feature freeze.

“Core packages are now soft frozen at this time until we release out the Alpha 1 images. The ISO tracker is recording testing for the images now, and thank you to those teams who have already jumped on and started testing. The flavor teams would appreciate if anyone with spare cycles can help with the testing,” said Kate Stewart in the official mailing list.

Check back tomorrow for more details about the first Alpha releases for these flavors.
