The second Alpha images of the upcoming Ubuntu GNOME Remix 12.10 distribution was announced yesterday, September 13th, by Jeremy Bicha and the Ubuntu Gnome Community.

After just ten days from the first Alpha release of Ubuntu GNOME Remix 12.10, a Ubuntu-based operating system powered by the GNOME desktop environment, the second development version is now available for testing.

This release comes with GNOME 3.6 Beta 2 (including GNOME Shell 3.6 Beta 2 and GDM 3.6 Beta 2), redesigned both the lock and login screen, GNOME Package-Kit, and updates apps like Epiphany, AbiWord, Gnumeric, Cheese, Gwibber, Rhythmbox, Shotwell, Simple Scan, and Transmission.

Download Ubuntu GNOME Remix 12.10 Alpha 2 right now from Softpedia. Remember that this is an alpha version and it should NOT be installed on production machines. It is intended for testing purposes only.

Still looks unrefined. Terrible fonts and awful theme. Gnome lacks a path or vision. Compared to todays Linux Gnome looks like they went back into the stone age. And the downfall is, to get anything working you have to install.....um what are those things?.......yes you know what they are. Utterly ridiculous!

Actually. It's looking good. I suspect the above commenter did not actually download and try it. Gnome Shell is a great system which lets you get on with work while providing features that make work easy and seamless. Easy and fluid movement between windows make it a joy to use. After using Gnome 3 a while, going back to gnome 2 is painful. The opinions of trolls are not of any value to anyone. Notice how they are the first to jump in with brainless comments. For people who don't like Gnome 3 they seem awfully keen to read anything associated with it.
