The hacking of the Ubuntu Forums seems to be unrelated with the Ubuntu Edge leaked images

Canonical has announced that its Ubuntu Forums site, ubuntuforums.org, has been hacked and some sensitive data has been stolen.

“There has been a security breach on the Ubuntu Forums site, ubuntuforums.org. We take information security and user privacy very seriously, and apologise for the breach and ensuing inconvenience,” reads the announcement posted on the official blog by Canonical’s Jane Silber.

The hacker have accessed all user email addresses and hashed passwords on the Forums site. Canonical says that the passwords weren’t stored in plain text, but users have been advised to change them, if the passwords are in use on other platforms.

It seems that no other service has been affected and the company says that no other Ubuntu or Canonical site or service is affected.

This problem has been announced suspiciously quickly after the images of an upcoming new Ubuntu product appeared on the Internet on Saturday.

We’ll keep you apprised with more information as it becomes available.
