A short video of the Music apps working in Ubuntu 15.04

The Ubuntu Touch platform has a number of applications that have been developed specifically for this platform, but they are actually working on the desktop as well. The same is true for the Music app, which already looks great.

Canonical is working to converge the Ubuntu Touch platform with the desktop and they have made some great progress. One of the main results of this effort is that some of the apps made to work on the mobile platform are using Qml, and that means they are also ready to work on the desktop side, with very little intervention.

In fact, if you take a closer look at the video made by Popescu Sorin, you will notice that all the things you would expect to see on the desktop, like windows resizing and such, are working just fine and without any major issues.

Music app working on the desktop shows that convergence is already here

Some people might not like the way the application looks or behaves on the desktop, but that's not the point. Others are saying that are still waiting to see the signs of convergence. The truth is that it's already here, at least at code level. When you can just take the source of an app that is running on the phone and make it work on the desktop, you can pretty much say that the two platforms have converged.

It's important to know that the version to eventually end up on the desktop is unlikely to be looking like this, but the point of this video is to show just how easy it is to make this work. This kind of convergence will become even more obvious after Mir and Unity 8 will be available for the desktop as well. Users will be able to install apps that run on both systems and the makers of those apps don't really care which kind of users will be downloading their apps, mobile or PC.
