The Ubuntu Community Council has issued a statement regarding the recent dispute they had with Jonathan Riddell, the leader of the Kubuntu project.

A lot of information has been published in the past few days regarding the discussions between the Ubuntu Community Council and Kubuntu's Jonathan Riddell. In short, following some very long and tense conversations, Jonathan Riddell was asked to step down from this leadership role in the Kubuntu community, which he refused. This is not something that often happens in the community, so many eyes have been pointed towards these discussions.

On the other hand, the Kubuntu Community Council has shown its support for Jonathan Riddell, and he refused to take any measure in this regard. Even Mark Shuttleworth pitched in and explained that he needed to respect the decision of the council. One of the problems is that the online community only had access to parts of the discussion as the Ubuntu Community Council talked about these issues in private. Now, the same council has made a public statement detailing what has happened.

Ubuntu Community Council wanted to keep things private for a reason

The fact that these discussions regarding the removal of Jonathan Riddell from his role took place behind "closed door" was one of the things that got people, anyone, but now the Ubuntu Community Council explained that they wanted to respect people's privacy as some of the discussions were not exactly flattering.

"The Community Council is currently working on a communication to the Kubuntu Council with regard to their request for additional information. The Community Council will be providing a much more detailed list of incidents, with context, to the Kubuntu Council. The Community Council wishes to respect the privacy of those involved so those details will not be made public by us," reads the statement from the Council.

It's a long statement that really needs a proper read. It would be wrong to interpret what the council is saying, so just click on the button below to see the entire statement.
