The Ubuntu CE development team proudly announced a couple of days ago (December 2nd) the immediate availability of the Beta release of Ubuntu Christian Edition 6.0. Being based on the powerful Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala), the new, highly anticipated release of Ubuntu Christian Edition improves the DansGuardian GUI and the E-sword installer introduced in the previous version. However, the big news is that a Server Edition of Ubuntu Christian Edition is now available for download. It includes exclusive packages!

"In addition to the desktop edition, we have also released a server edition. Three important packages included in the server edition are Churchinfo (church management software), Christian Website in a Box (webhosting), and prayerboard (software to manage prayer requests). The server edition is released as a live cd to facilitate easy installation." was stated in the forum announcement by the Ubuntu CE team.

Highlights of Ubuntu Christian Edition 6.0 Beta:

· Based entirely on Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala);
· DansGuardian GUI improvements;
· E-sword installer improvements;
· OpenOffice.org replaced GnomeOffice;
· Removed the GnuCash application.

Ubuntu Christian Edition is now available as an installable Live DVD, based on the very popular Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) operating system. Ubuntu Christian Edition is a free, open source operating system created for Christians. The main goal of this distribution is to bring the security and power of Ubuntu to Christians. It can be used for both server and desktop environments.

Ubuntu Christian Edition includes more than 16,000 pieces of software. Apart from the usual applications found in a regular Ubuntu distribution, this one contains GnomeSword, a top-of-the-line Bible study program for Linux, based on the Sword Project and several modules.

It's things like these that make me want to bang my head against the wall so hard it explodes. Seriously, I respect the views of these people and everything, but does there really have to be a whole new distro made for it? It's not even really a new distro; it's Ubuntu with a wallpaper of Jesus and a couple bible programs. If they want to make those, fine, but it's really not worth creating something that's such a minor modification.

And it's not because of my moral freedomism / lack of religion that I say this; it's simple common sense. Religion has no place in the computing world, and this sham displays that clearly. I might as well take 9.10 and put a cat wallpaper in, with a couple cat games and call it Ubuntu Felix Edition!

It's sad, really.

Oh, for crying out loud. Saying "Religion has no place in the computing world" makes as little sense as saying that politics or gender or food has no place in the computing world.

So, should the internet ban any program or distro that only appeals to a small group?

The computing world is made up of people. Some people do dumb things like making distros of Jesus wallpaper, and some people do dumb things like whining about petty things and making everyone who doesn't believe in a god look like little crybabies.

So grow up and learn that the universe doesn't care about your religious beliefs.

This distro is VERY useful not only for Christians but also for families with small children: it's the ONLY distro that includes DansGuardian ready to use! The PROPER installation of Dans Guardian is something difficult to do for a typical linux user. I tried but had so several problems and I unistalled it. With UbuntuCE you have your family protected by harmful internet content by default!!! No distro implemented this feature yet. So I recommend this distro to all families! The implementaion of DansGuardian is much better than Ubuntu muslim edition's one.
