Ubuntu 7.04 (codename Feisty Fawn) was indeed a success in the Linux history. Focused more on the features that interact with the end-user, Feisty Fawn also gained popularity among developers who have already started working on new Linux distros based on it. The start was given by the Ubuntu Satanic Edition (which is not actually a distribution but a collection of themes) and now it is followed by the Ubuntu Christian Edition, which has recently announced the release of the Ubuntu CE 3.0.

The Ubuntu CE Team claims that the 3.0 release also takes in some new exciting features, along with the fact that it is based directly on Feisty, a basic improvement brought to the previous version. The first new added feature, which can be easily noticed as it appears on the desktop, would be the Daily Bible Verse. This new addition uses gDesklets and Bible RSS desklet, built exclusively for Ubuntu CE. As any new distribution, Ubuntu CE 3.0 benefits from some new themes and all graphics have been updated as well as the convert_me script, now providing a better theme integration. The Word program now features the e-Sword Installer, which was quite popular among the CE users, while Firefox received a new look straight from the developer of Bible Fox theme, who has joined the Ubuntu CE Team.

According to Jereme Hancock, this release marks the end of the development in Ubuntu CE v1.5.x (Dapper). The current releases will still be available, but they will no longer be developed or featured on the Ubuntu CE project site.

Since its first announcement, Ubuntu Christian Edition stirred controversies among the Linux community, many members criticizing the new distro. Some of them didn't even call it a "distribution" or a "fork", as the only thing they said it brought new is a package of applications that could easily by done in Ubuntu; others voiced against its religious aspect, claiming it had nothing to do with an operating system.
