Now that Ubuntu Online Summit (UOS) event for Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) came to an end, Canonical's developers have just published the first snapshots, or daily builds as they call them, for the upcoming operating system.

Thanks to the Ubuntu Online Summit event, we were able to report this week a significant amount of articles related to the new features coming to Ubuntu 15.10, which has been dubbed Wily Werewolf by none other than its creator, Mark Shuttleworth.

Among these, we can mention that the base of Ubuntu 15.10 will be derived from the upstream Debian GNU/Linux 9.0 (Stretch) repos, and the implementation of Linux kernel 4.0, which was released by Linus Torvalds on April 12, 2015.

The Live ISO images are derived from Ubuntu 15.04

As usual, we've downloaded the Live ISO images of Ubuntu 15.10 to take a quick look at what has been implemented for the moment. Its looks (artwork, desktop layout) are, of course, identical with those of Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) from which it is currently derived.

Under the hood, Ubuntu 15.10 uses the same Linux 3.19 kernel packages that can be found in Ubuntu 15.04, but a newer version (3.19.0-17.17) is already in the repositories. All the applications you know and love are pre-installed and are at the same version numbers used in Vivid Vervet, so don't expect many changes.

And now that moment you've all been waiting for, as you can download Ubuntu 15.10 (Wily Werewolf) daily builds right now via Softpedia. At the moment, the operating system is distributed as 32 and 64-bit Live DVD ISO images that allow you to try the OS without installing it.

While there's no official release schedule available for Ubuntu 15.10 at the moment of writing this article, we can tell you that the final version is expected at the end of October 2015. Until then, we will keep in the loop with the development of Wily Werewolf.
