Canonical, through Adam Conrad, had the pleasure of announcing today, March 26, the immediate availability for download and testing of the Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) Final Beta operating system for personal computers and laptops. Users are urged to test the distribution and report major issues in order for the Ubuntu developers to fix them before the final version gets out in less than one month from now.

Ubuntu 15.04 Final Beta is also the first ever official development release of the forthcoming Ubuntu 15.04 Linux operating system, due for release on April 23, 2015. The Kubuntu 15.04, Xubuntu 15.04, Lubuntu 15.04, Ubuntu GNOME 15.04, Ubuntu Kylin 15.04, Ubuntu MATE 15.04, and Ubuntu Studio 15.04 distributions have also been updated today to Beta 2.

Here’s what’s new in Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) Final Beta

Highlights of Ubuntu 15.04 Final Beta include Linux 3.19.2 kernel, systemd as the default init system, a new set of gorgeous wallpapers from the Ubuntu community, an improved Unity user interface with locally integrated menus enabled by default, as well as many updated applications, code cleanup, and updated documentation.

The Final Beta of Ubuntu 15.04 is also the final development release of the upcoming distribution, which is now in feature freeze, as Adam Conrad announced yesterday on the Ubuntu Devel mailing list. This means that no major features will be included in the operating system, so if everything is in place, this Final Beta will become the final release of Ubuntu 15.04.

As usual, you can download Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) Final Beta right now from Softpedia. We’ve taken the distribution for a quick test drive and created a nice screenshot tour for your viewing please, so check it out below. When testing Ubuntu 15.04 Final Beta, please keep in mind that the operating system has not been declared stable for production machines.
