Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) Preparing for Qt 5.3 Integration
The Ubuntu developers are working to integrate these important packages
Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) is now in the middle of the development cycle and the developers are still adding new features and packages to the distribution. The support for Qt 5.3 is just one of them.Canonical is looking to have Qt 5.3 ready for Ubuntu 14.10, but there are still a number of problems that need to be solved. The latest Qt packages were supposed to be ready a week ago, but the developers still haven't fixed all the issues.
“The landing this week seems doable, let's do our best to fix the remaining blockers. Many bugs are being pinpointed to specific root problems, but we need to get rid of the remaining blockers.”
“Testing seems good so far with ~99% working with current knowledge. All store apps have been started in an automated way by, with screenshots and crashes grabbed. Additionally some manual testing is being done all the time,” said Timo Jyrinki.
Having Qt 5.3 early in the development cycle is important because it allows developers to fix the problems that are sure to come up, especially with the complex integration of these packages.
Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) is expected to arrive at the end of October 2014, but the distribution is still being put together and new features are bound to arrive.
