Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) Hits Feature Freeze
The Ubuntu development cycle has reached a new stage
Canonical is working on Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) and the development cycle has just reached an important stage.Ubuntu 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) is going to pass through several development stages and the Feature Freeze is just one of them. This means that developers can no longer get new features and major changes into the system, unless it’s important enough to get an exemption.
“As of nowish, Feature Freeze is in effect for utopic (14.10), leading up to the release in October. Don't fret if you have One Last Feature to get uploaded, and don't panic and upload it untested today just to try to beat the clock. We would rather see a feature freeze exception bug and a well-tested upload than something rushed to beat a deadline.”
“That said, the vast majority of people should be winding down new feature development now and focusing on bug fixes and polish to make 14.10 yet another great release come October” said Canonical’s Adam Conrad.
This is something that happens in each development cycle and there are always developers who manage to push changes past this stage, but it also basically means that the rough form of the upcoming Ubuntu 14.10 release in October is the current one.
