14 DAY TRIAL // A torrent scope for Ubuntu 13.10 and Ubuntu 14.04 is now available for download and testing, bringing a much needed functionality to Unity's dash, and it will be made available as default in the upcoming LTS version.
We reported a short while ago about the development of a torrent scope that could be used in Unity, for the newly released Ubuntu 13.10 and the upcoming Ubuntu 14.04.
“The Saucy/Trusty early version of the torrents scope has landed yesterday in the scopes-packagers ppa. Not the final design, but a good way to test the functionnality (which was initially created for Precise) against the smartscopes Dash,” noted the developer of the scope, David Callé.
To make things even more interesting, Mark Shuttleworth said that it would be a great idea to implement this tool as default in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.
“David, let's go ahead. The tool is super-useful and it's perfectly justified to make it available by default. We use Torrents for distributing ubuntu itself. So please don't hold back,” Mark Shuttleworth wrote on Google+.
The developer is also working on implementing multiple sources for the torrent query, and it's likely that more updates will be made available in the future.
