The Ubuntu 14.04 LTS development is going as planned, and Canonical has announced that the distribution is preparing to switch to Linux kernel 3.13.

Following on its promise to try to integrate the latest available Linux kernel into the upcoming Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr), Canonical is now updating it constantly with the most recent builds.

“We've finished cleaning up some DKMS packages for Trusty and are preparing for our first v3.13 based kernel upload to the archive. This is specifically based on the latest v3.13-rc7 upstream kernel,” said Canonical's Joseph Salisbury.

Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) is expected to arrive on April 17, 2014. Canonical has already said that it is shooting for the 3.13 stable kernel, which is almost released, according to Linus Torvalds.

Developers might even try to get Linux kernel 3.14 if the cycle is short and if there aren’t many release candidates.
