The development of Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) has reached another important phase that usually captures the interest of the community, the Wallpaper Contest.

Canonical holds a simple contest, twice a year, to decide the next batch of wallpapers that are going to be used in the upcoming Ubuntu operating system.

The process is not as simple as you might thing and the images have to respect a lot of rules before they even get considered.

The rules include a certain resolution, availability in various formats, no brand names or trademarks of any kind, no images of weapons or violence, no high frequency images, and so on.

Keep in mind that these will make the bulk of the wallpapers, but not the main one, which is designed by a team employed by Canonical.

The submissions are done via a Flickr channel and the complete rules can be found in the official Ubuntu Wiki.
