Canonical developers are preparing for the release of Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) and the final touches are made to the distribution.

Ubuntu 13.10 will fulfill its original target of implementing the latest stable Linux kernel by the time of the launch, 3.11. They even managed to get the first update for 3.11 into the distribution.

“We've remained rebased on a v3.11.1 kernel for Saucy and the archive is currently frozen for Final Beta this Thurs Sept 26. Any uploads will need to be cleared with the Ubuntu Release Team. Additionally, Ubuntu Kernel Freeze is ~1 week away, Thurs Oct 03,” stated Canonical's Joseph Salisbury.

The final freeze for Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) is set for October 10, and the official release date is October 17. The kernel freeze is only a week away, so most likely Ubuntu 13.10 will ship with Linux kernel 3.11.x.
