Canonical developers have announced that the final freeze for Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) is scheduled for today, at 21.00 UTC.
Final freeze for Ubuntu 13.10, and most Linux distributions for that matter, means that no new features, updates, and new applications will be integrated in the operating system. The development cycle has ended and, barring some major problem that need a fix, the version now available for download is pretty much it.
There are a few exceptions from this rule and these exceptions can be enforced with extreme prejudice by Mark Shuttleworth and a couple of other who have the power to intervene.
If you would like to wait for the “official” version, that you must know already that Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) will be made available on October 17.
