A lot of users are reporting that Unity panel is freezing constantly

Ubuntu 13.10 has been hit by a problem that is affecting more and more users and that renders the operating system almost useless.

We reviewed the new Ubuntu 13.10 (Saucy Salamander) a while ago, and it seemed like a very stable and reliable piece of software. Even before exiting Beta, the OS didn't have any particular problems.

Now, a lot of users are complaining that the Unity panel, along with all the indicators, is freezing on a constant basis. It's unsure why this happens or if it's hardware-related, but the only way around it is to restart compiz, which can really be a hassle if you're doing it on a daily basis.

The problem has been plaguing users for three weeks after launch, and none of the updates pushed so far by Canonical have fixed it.

If you have been affected by the Unity freeze, leave a comment below, maybe we can track down the source of this annoying issue.

Update: Following the comments of the users, I did some more digging and I found a Launchpad bug entry, which is reported as fixed and that sounds very familiar, although I can't be 100% sure that it's the same problem.

Judging by the comments in the Launchpad section, some users still have this issue and it seems to be related to a memory leak.
