A decision hasn't been made yet about the release schedule

Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail has been announced by Mark Shuttleworth a couple of weeks ago, but it seems that the usual release schedule is out the window.

Canonical had a very strict release schedule in the past, at least until Ubuntu 12.10, but it's about to change.

A preliminary discussion has been opened at the Ubuntu Developer Summit in Denmark about the possibility of ditching the alpha versions.

According to omgubuntu.co.uk, Canonical would instead release monthly milestones, which are practically daily builds. This would get users access to certain features a lot sooner in the development cycle.

The only distribution that would undergo this change is Ubuntu. The other ones in the series, such as Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, and so on, would be unaffected and would follow the usual development cycle.

Ubuntu Developer Summit is a four-day event for Ubuntu contributors that will be held in Copenhagen, Denmark on October 29 – November 1, 2012.
