Mark Shuttleworth has announced that Canonical is planning on taking its operating system, Ubuntu, to other platforms such as smartphones, TVs, and tablets. In an interview with Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols, for
zdnet.com, Mark Shuttleworth revealed his plans for Ubuntu operating system.
Apparently, 12.04 LTS (Long Term Support) will be a version designed to polish their Linux distro and to make the Unity interface the best it can be. This means that Ubuntu 12.10 will be available for smartphones, tablets and TVs.
“This is a natural expansion of our idea as Ubuntu as Linux for human beings. As people have moved from desktop to new form factors for computing, it’s important for us to reach out to out community on these platforms. So, we’ll embrace the challenge of how to use Ubuntu on smartphones, tablets and smart-screens”, said Mark Shuttleworth in the
interview.
We can't really say this is a surprise, especially after seeing that Unity is an interface build for these kind of platforms.
