Today we are proud to announce a new feature that will be implemented in the upcoming Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal) operating system, due for release on October 18th, 2012.

It is called Previews and it will be implemented in the Unity Dash, allowing users to right click on files in order to view some detailed information about them, as well as the ability to interact with the files. For example, a sound file will have the option to play it in the default music player.

The Previews functionality has now officially been added to the daily build of Ubuntu 12.10, as of September 3rd, and it works like described.

The best part is that Previews works not only on files but also on applications, giving users a screenshot of the running app, user ratings, basic description (information captured from Ubuntu Software Center), as well as the ability to launch it or install/uninstall it.

Don't forget to visit our website this Thursday, September 6th, for a detailed article about the Ubuntu 12.10 Beta 1 release, in which we will unveil more of Quantal's features.
