Dear Softpedians and Ubuntu fanatics all over the world, we are proud to announce (yes, we are the first again) today, October 18th, that the final and stable release of Ubuntu 12.10 is here, available on mirrors worldwide (see the download links at the end of the article).

Dubbed Quantal Quetzal, the new Ubuntu 12.10 operating system is the 17th release of the Ubuntu OS and it will be supported for two years, until April 2014, on both desktops and servers.

Powered by Linux kernel 3.5 and the GNOME 3.6 desktop environment (with an enhanced
Unity interface on top of it) the Ubuntu 12.10 release brings overall improvements, updated apps, and lots of new features.

Quantal Quetzal comes in the following official editions: Ubuntu Desktop, Ubuntu Server, Ubuntu Cloud Server, Ubuntu ARM, Ubuntu Netboot, Ubuntu Core, Ubuntu Studio, Edubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Lubuntu, and Mythbuntu.

Under the hood of Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal):

its a piece of something...

I will always remember Ubuntu as the distro that provided enough hardware support that I could start using linux. But I'm so thankful that LinuxMint and LMDE exist to counter some of Canonicals mistakes- specifically, LinuxMint is still community driven. And that _is_ important. Maybe more than you realize
