Canonical released earlier today, September 6th, the first Beta version of the upcoming Ubuntu 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal) operating system.

Ubuntu 12.10 Beta 1 is powered by Linux kernel 3.5.3 and features Mozilla Firefox 15.0, Mozilla Thunderbird 15.0, GNOME 3.6 Beta 1 desktop environment, Unity 6.4 desktop interface, and the LibreOffice 3.6.1 office suite.

Ubuntu 12.10 Beta 1 is distributed as Live CD ISO images for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures. There are no more Alternate CDs.
