Canonical has announced that Ubuntu 11.10, a.k.a Oneiric Ocelot, will be their first distribution to support the ARM architecture.

The biggest change since Ubuntu 11.04 (Natty Narwhal) seems to be support for the ARM architecture, a move that will make sure that the next Ubuntu will gain some market share in the tablet niche, a category of products that is quite popular nowadays.

ARM processors are also becoming a favorite for servers and Canonical believes that they will become increasingly important with the rise of cloud support.

Canonical also confirmed that Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot) will feature Linux kernel 3.0 and GNOME 3.0, and tons of the other improvements.

Don't forget to visit our website this Thursday, October 13th, to download the final version of Ubuntu 11.10 (and all other iterations) and read a short overview of its features.
