When you upgrade to Ubuntu 11.04 how will this affect Parallel's, because when I upgraded to it with the alpha 2, my computer exploded.

Hmm.. i installed the Alpha 3 on a virtual machine, and during the install it was boasting the features, and the audio player is still Rhythmbox, no mention of Banshee anywhere.

I will have to wait until the install ocmpletely finishes to verify.

Yeah, they didn't replace it in that slideshow... just like the OpenOffice.org screenshot :D

Don't worry, Banshee is there! ;)

Banshee is a problem for me because of its mono dependency. I removed mono (and apps like F-Stop and tomboy) from my systems because of the mono-Microsoft connection and patent uncertainties.

Comment #2.1 by: KeithCu on 04 Mar 2011, 18:05 GMT

Why don't you wait until an injunction is filed against Mono before you bother? Software patents are invalid! We can win any patent lawsuit. Mono is free software built by a worldwide community. There are patent "risks" all over the free software stack. Don't let Microsoft change your behavior.

Very nice, always liked ubuntu because most people use it and most software packages are available for it...

But always hated gnome and kde for its looks and feels... both feel like an bad combination between windows 98 and Windows XP.

I hope unity will bring some well needed change to this. Maybe Linux will even become graphically populair (we all now its not at the moment).

p.s. works great under virtualbox, but the virtualbox "guest additions" install script is not suitable for this version yet. It kills the x.org server.

Ubuntu's UI mimicks Windows, and Xubuntu of OSX. Hmmm.

Comment #4.1 by: Reiden Uses Ubuntu on 28 Mar 2011, 22:30 GMT

Actually, Kubuntu is the one that looks like windows. But it's windows who took basis from KDE, so Microsoft is still the thief. Gnome on Ubuntu mimicks OSX more than it does windows.

Unity will be a great way to give it a more graphic identity.
