The current Ubuncon Germany is transforming

Some members of the Ubuntu community want to organize Ubucon Europe 2016, a convention aimed at developers and users alike. The organizers are still in the early stages, and they want some feedback.

Canonical used to organize some Ubuntu conferences until a few years ago, but they were mostly for developers inside the project. The company moved the summits online and currently there are no specific events for Ubuntu users, especially if we keep in mind that Ubuntu is the most used operating system in the world.

To be fair, some local Ubuntu conferences did take place and the one in Germany is probably one of the biggest, but it was organized as a local event for German users. Now, the same organizers want to transform the regular Ubucon into Ubucon Europe and get more people to participate. Given the amount of new stuff that has the Ubuntu stamp on it, they won't have a problem finding people to go, but they do need some feedback.

Ubucon Europe 2016 is happening

As the name suggests, this is an even for Ubuntu fans and developers, but it doesn't mean that it can't be joined by any Linux fan in Europe. If they have at least some moderate success with the convention, it's a good bet that they will be willing to organize it on a more regular basis.

"We've just registered the domain ubucon.eu which will be the place where future announcements will go. But firstly we need feedback from you for further planning. Usually we have roughly 150 attendees each year at Ubucon Germany. We actually don't have any idea how many people are interested in a European Ubucon and how many people are willing travel to Essen to attend the event," said the organizers in the announcement.

The event should take place in September or October 2016, so there is plenty of time to send your suggestions or to figure out if you're going to attend. For more details about Ubucon Europe 2016, please check the official announcement regarding the event.
