The developers at Nadeo and publisher Ubisoft have offered a small amount of information and the first image linked to their upcoming project, called ShootMania Storm, which will use the same basic concepts as TrackMania and will be part of the bigger ManiaPlanet franchise.

The game will take the core elements of the first-person shooter experience and will create a persistent online experience using them, with a lot of customization options linked to both the player characters and the arenas where they do battle.

Maps can be created, edited and shared by the community and the two companies will ask those who want to host games to pay for the privilege.

TrackMania has gained a sizeable following with its focus on speed and solid mastery of the courses, but it is not clear whether the same concept can be applied to the first-person shooter.

Ubisoft plans to launch an open beta stage for ShootMania Storm during the following few months and a launch might happen as soon as the fall of this year.
