EndWar is the key game

Ubisoft is one of the biggest publishers out there, with titles such as Prince of Persia or Assassin’s Creed under their belt. But one of their most successful franchises is Tom Clancy, with innovative series of games like Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon and the upcoming titles EndWar and HAWX.

With all of these titles under the Tom Clancy name, Ubisoft has now declared that it might join the common elements from all of the games into one single title. Through the voice of Vinh-Dieu Lam, lead Artificial Intelligence programmer for the EndWar title, the company reports of its current and future attempts to tie-in other elements from the Tom Clancy universe in the EndWar game.

Lam stated that some elements from the HAWX and Ghost Recon titles would appear in the upcoming voice controlled RTS (Real Time Strategy) title. “There are minor tie-ins with this game, but after this game there will be a lot more tie-ins. Some of our airstrikes come from the HAWX list of fighter jets, some of the Ghost Recon units are in the game, like Scott Mitchell is the commanding officer of the American army, so there are a few tie-ins. It all acts as a basis for future tie-ins.”

He also stated the possible plans for the future iterations in the EndWar franchise. “In the next versions you’ll find, say, missions generated in the next Ghost Recon (presumably GRAW 3) affecting the world map in the next EndWar (presumably EndWar 2). So maybe in the next EndWar you will need to attack Paris but before you can it may generate some sort of Splinter Cell recon mission or a Ghost Recon mission or things like that. But that is the direction we are looking at.”

All in all, it sounds like a very interesting idea, but Ubisoft must be careful about it. Decisions shouldn’t be made without deep consideration; while there are certainly a lot of Tom Clancy fans out there, if the game isn’t good, they won’t buy it.
