Large French publisher Ubisoft has confessed its desire to see many of the big franchises it owns appear on all sorts of devices, not just consoles or the PC, but also on tablets like the Apple iPad or the many other such platforms that are currently being released.

Ubisoft has a quite a large stable of franchises, consisting of both core series, like Assassin's Creed or Prince of Persia, but also more casual ones, like Raving Rabbids or Petz, which have appeared on a variety of platforms.

Now, Ubisoft is manifesting an interest in other sorts of gaming devices, not just dedicated consoles or the PC, as the company's CEO, Yves Guillemot, told investors, during a recent earnings call that tablets are a segment where the French publisher wants to release more titles, even naming Assassin's Creed as one of the series that might see an installment appear on such platforms.

"The tablet market is growing fast, we have Apple and lots of other players with tablets," said the Ubisoft CEO, via CVG. "We are developing a few products around our brands. You will see games in the next few years from all of our biggest brands like Assassin's Creed."

When asked just how these titles will be a part of the regular series, Guillemot confirmed that they'll be spin-offs, designed specifically for the devices, not straight up conversions of the full-pledged titles that appear on consoles or the PC.

"They will be different games," said the Ubisoft CEO. "They will be adapted from games in the past or specifically developed for those platforms."

Ubisoft is pretty certain to allow its sister company, Gameloft, to develope these adaptations, as it has already released Prince of Persia or Assassin's Creed titles for mobile phones, and is slowly but surely gaining expertise with tablets.

Until we'll be able to play such Ubisoft games on these devices, the series is set to receive its newest installment, Assassin's Creed: Revelations, later this year for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
