I Am Alive was finally launched after several years in development and publisher Ubisoft says that the game has proved very divisive, receiving perfect scores from some outlets and marks as low as 4 out of 10 from others.

Chris Early, who is the vice president of digital publishing at Ubisoft, has told Eurogamer that, “As you've probably seen, our critical reaction has been from very high to very low. It's been one of the most polarising titles we've ever launched.

“That's partly in reaction to the game mechanic. Some people love that type of platforming, puzzling game mechanic. And some people particularly don't.”

I Am Alive asks the player to carefully manage his stamina level as he goes up the wrecked buildings of the city and some gamers say that the margin for error in the game is just too small.

The Ubisoft executive believes that, for those who liked it, the I Am Alive delivers a solid gaming experience with good graphics and an interesting narrative.

At the moment the Metacritic average for I Am Alive is just above 70.

At the moment the game is only offered on the Xbox Live via the Mouse Party promotion that Microsoft initiated.

A version for the PlayStation Network will be launched on April 4 and it is not yet clear whether Ubisoft will also bring I Am Alive to the PC.

Early also talked about the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live, saying that, “I don't believe they've peaked. What we've seen over time is the production quality of the games that are going into those platforms has evolved considerably. “

Ubisoft sees the Xbox Live and PSN as equivalent to the app markets on the Android- and iOS-powered smartphones, where the initial development efforts cost more and deliver less quality than titles that launch when the platform is mature.
