The Nintendo Wii has already been touted as an effective way to fight against obesity and different programs have been tested in schools with positive results. It's not a brain bender, though, to figure out pretty quickly that gamers do burn more calories when playing a Wii game than any
other Console or PC title, but that definitely (my opinion) can't and will never replace a healthy lifestyle and some real life sports. However, it is a step forward and a proof that you can fight against obesity in some pleasant ways, too.

Ubisoft seems to feel the same, since it is prepared to launch a "game" that has only one goal: to make you lose weight, or if you don't have such problems, to keep you fit all the time. The twist comes, however, with the platform this game is built for: the Nintendo DS! Well, that's a new one, right? And it seems that, actually, the DS console will become the ultimate "human training" gadget, since we can already train our brains with some games there.

Ubisoft's game will be called My Weight Loss Coach and it is being developed under the guidance of both a nutritionist and a fitness coach. What will it do? It will help you take positive steps to maintain a healthy lifestyle. How? Well... there are different ways. First of all, you will have to create your personal profile and evaluate your potential and set up some objectives based on the recommendations made by the game. Then, you will be able to log your process on a daily and weekly basis and get really happy when you see how good things are turning out for your body. To help you feel even better, you will have a "Pedometer", a peripheral device that comes with the game and controls about everything regarding your fitness, while some Real-Life Landmark Checkpoints converts all your successes into measurable distances based on real examples.

"My Weight Loss Coach allows us to approach casual gamers with something innovative," said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing at Ubisoft. "The game creates customized coaching sessions based on skill level, and, for the first time on DS, includes a pedometer. My Weight Loss Coach not only allows users to take control of their physical well-being, but it does so in a fun and engaging manner."
