The recently revealed Nintendo Wii U home console is pretty much on equal footing with its rivals, and in some cases, it's even superior, at least according to Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot.

The Nintendo Wii U was revealed two weeks ago at E3 2011, and impressed a lot of people with its improved hardware and high definition capabilities.

We've already heard people talk about the Wii U in comparison to its rivals, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and now, Ubisoft president Yves Guillemot, via Beefjack, has chimed in with his own assumptions of the device.

According to the executive, the Wii U is pretty similar to its rivals, but it can surpass them in the case of certain games.

"I think at least [as powerful]. It should be even superior for some of the games. We don't know everything, so we have a few things Nintendo is telling us that will have such and such powers."

He confirmed that Ubisoft studios had Wii U developer kits for "quite some time," and that, "from the beginning when we saw that console we were impressed by the level of quality of the experience you could get."

The executive also highlighted that, because of the similar power output, developing for the Wii U won't cost all that much, meaning third-party companies will be eager to embrace the platform.

"[Wii U] doesn't increase [development costs] very much because the advantage is in being close to the other machines, you can do the game for all the formats at the same time."

Ubisoft Quebec's senior technical architect Marc Parenteau revealed right after the announcement of the Wii U that it's too early to tell how it fairs against its rivals in terms of power.

The Nintendo Wii U is currently scheduled to appear next year, probably in the first half, with the Japanese company revealing more and more things about the console every day.
