Wesley Pincombe, the creative director working on the Freedom Cry add-on for Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, says that his team considered including a kraken in the new content but decided against using any fantasy elements.

He tells Eurogamer that, “I'll even say it was part of our conception at one point. We were going to do some fantasy missions to do with piracy and the Caribbean at one point but we changed our direction in conception.”

The DLC for the previous game in the series included alternate reality elements focused on George Washington and many fans hoped that the team at Ubisoft would use the opportunity to do something similar with Black Flag.

Freedom Cry focuses on the character of Adewale and will allow gamers to explore a story set 15 years after the main story is finished.

More DLC is planned for Assassin’s Cree IV in the coming months.
