Internal teams are focusing on quite a few projects in the franchise

Ubisoft has confirmed that its internal studios are currently working on not one, but three different Assassin's Creed games that will be released in the following years.

The original Assassin's Creed came out in 2007 and was followed by a sequel in 2009. Since then, new installments have appeared each year, with the latest being Assassin's Creed 3 and the next being Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag.

According to Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot, the publisher's internal teams are currently working on three games in the franchise.

This doesn't mean that the company is imposing harsh conditions on its teams or trying to stop innovation.

"We are making sure the teams who are creating the different iterations have enough time - two years, three years, so that they can take risk and they can change the concept enough so that it can be appealing and fresh," Guillemot told Kotaku.

One of those three games is this year's Assassin's Creed 4, another is next year's installment, and the third one could be 2015's game or a mobile installment in the vein of Assassin's Creed 3: Liberation.
