They will drive the market

Ubisoft is one of the biggest European developers and publishers of video games. From franchises like Far Cry to Assassin's Creed or new properties like I Am Alive, the company is branching out into many genres, bringing its games on a variety of platforms.

But what does its president, Yves Guillemot, think about the future of the industry and about what genres will become more and more important? He recently talked about this subject and pinpointed two very interesting and, in his opinion, certain things: price cuts for consoles and the growing popularity of fitness titles.

“We will see a real growth of the high-end consoles because they will go down in price,” said Guillemot to reporters during the fiscal earnings report. “We will also see more fitness products sold. It's a genre that is growing fast. And I think that the market will really grow if hardware machines are down in terms of price.”

While we have heard Guillemot talk about consoles, specifically price cuts and when he thinks the next generation of devices will appear in the near future, the French executive hasn't explored fitness titles. Could this be a possible tease regarding the big announcements the company has been keeping secret for the upcoming Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) ?

Nothing is for certain though, but seeing how Ubisoft wants a piece of almost every genre, be it hardcore or casual-oriented, it's safe to say that the possibility of the company entering the fitness market dominated by Nintendo and threatened by EA might exist. Hopefully things will be clearer once E3 starts.
